Homemade Cranberry Sauce

Cranberry sauce is one of my favorite things to eat at Thanksgiving dinner. While grocery shopping I saw bags of cranberries and got excited. I have never bought fresh cranberries before, let alone make my own cranberry sauce, but figured that I could try.

Prep Time: 5 mins

Cook Time: 10 mins

What you will need:

  • 4 Cups of Cranberries
  • 1 Cup of Sugar
  • 1 Cup of Water
  • Cinnamon, Nutmeg, All Spice (optional)
  • Crushed Nuts, Raisins (optional)

Sort through berries and rinse them off. Remember you will need 4 cups worth!

In a sauce pan, bring the water to a boil and then add the sugar. Stir until the sugar is dissolved.

Add the cranberries to the mixture and then reduce the heat.

Next, allow the berries to simmer for about 10 minutes. Stir occasionally.

You will hear and see the berries start to pop and crack — do not worry ^_^

When the simmering mixture starts to thicken you may add cinnamon, nutmeg, nuts, raisins, etc. After 10 minutes, remove the pan from the heat. Allow the sauce to cool at room temperature. It will thicken as it cools.

Once the sauce has cooled you may transfer the sauce into a different container to thicken further & serve.
